Top Things To do in New York City

Hello again! Apologies for not posting in a while, I've been busy with school summer work and I was also on holiday but I'm back! For more regular updates, please follow my instagram @planetstevens

In April, I went to New York with my family for the first time and, 6 months on, I thought I'd reflect on the trip by compiling a list of the things we felt were so worth doing. I loved my time there and honestly would recommend a trip to the Big Apple, it was truly special!

Pictures all taken by me

1. An open top bus trip (best for beginners)

This was probably the best thing to do if you've never been before simply because it really lets you see the city and its icons easily and quickly, its also good value and the one we did them from a company called Grayline (http://www.grayline.com/things-to-do/united-states/new-york-city/) and they were one of the best parts of the trip. Also, they are hop on hop off, which makes getting around the city so convenient, and with so many to choose from, what's stopping you?

Stunning, panoramic views from the top of the Bus.

2. A Visit to Times Square, at early evening as the sun is setting. (for a evening out)

Times Square has an energy unlike no place on earth, especially at evening! the lights from the advert boards and sounds from tourists, tour guides and stores are a sensory experience I would do again in a heartbeat! Although very touristy, I kinda love that about it. We had an amazing meal at Renaissance New York Times Square Hotel, it had a 180 degree view over Times Square and it is a must when going to NYC! 3. A cruise around The Hudson river (for an afternoon treat)

Honestly, I didn't have high hopes for this, but I was proven so wrong! It was so interesting to see the architecture of Manhattan, Brooklyn and Staten Island from the river, also, being on the water was a nice break from the concrete jungle on the mainland! We loved seeing The Statue of Liberty up close, a true NYC resident!

Southern Manhattan

4. A Carrage ride around Central Park (If all the sightseeing is getting tiring for your legs!)

My Mum would not have boarded the plane home if we hadn't done this, and she had good reason to, it was FAB! I felt like I was in a film or something (Just call me Blair Waldorf xo) and it was an exciting way to see the Park. It's also great to see real New Yorkers using the park to stretch their legs and meet friends. Top sites include the pond, the Bethesda Fountain and the sheep meadow. Carriages are available from the bottom of the park, opposite The Plaza Hotel.

5. A visit to Ground Zero (to be "moved")

Never before have I been so moved, so touched or so humbled by a Memorial. I remember walking off, away from my family and just running my hand across one of the names engraved below my hands, enough to make me emotional. The names alone create a feeling of sadness, but combined with the falling water and eerie whispered silence in the air makes the senses blur, and you feel only the now. Although I am not old enough to remember the events unfold, it didn't matter. Simply by being in the place it happened was enough to appreciate the day's effect on the world.

6. A trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art (for the culture)

On a more joyful note, the Met is literally filled with artefacts and objects to make anyone interested, so even if you think you're not a Museum person, trust me you are at the Met! Again, feeling a lot like Blair Waldorf when walking up the steps (try and stop me with the Gossip Girl references!) we had a hugely enjoyable experience. My favourite area was The American Wing (also it's the location of the Met Gala *screams*) and it was really interesting seeing the US art and furniture. Run, don't walk, just go there!

The Met

7. finally...See a Broadway Musical! (everybody loves a musical...)

But...make sure it's one you can only see it NYC, or at the very least one set in NYC for an even more authentic experience! Upside: they're usually cheaper than the mainstream musicals, and the one we went to, "Bandstand", was full of American people around us with whom we made great conversation during the interval!

The Jacobs Theatre

So, go forth and have an amazing time! and, if all else fails, go and get lost wandering Bergdorf Goodman on 5th...

BRANDED FASHION - LOVE IT OR LOATH IT

BRANDED FASHION - LOVE IT OR LOATH IT Brand logos are extremely popular with current Instagram bloggers and their street style, but they continue to divide the fashion community as a question of taste. Many people wrongly judge their fashion aesthetic around how much their outfit costs, and designer logos are an immediate way to communicate that to the average passer by. Personally, I like the look of a logo, so long as it positively impacts the outfit and is not done to "show off" the brand. Many people feel that any brand logo is done to enforce the brand on others, but if you look deeper than just how much that item of designer clothing may cost, logos are a good example of iconic graphic design, and I personally love the look of a logo (if done *classily*). The first logo to outwardly show a brand name was the monogram print of French trunk maker Louis Vuitton. In 1896, Louis Vuitton's son, Georges created the pattern in a bid to prevent counterfeiting of the...

MET GALA FASHION REVIEW

MET GALA FASHION REVIEW 2018 The Met Gala is, to fashion, what the olympics is to sport, what tea is to British people, what facetune is to beauty gurus, an iconic pairing that anyone interested cannot afford to miss. But why? Put simply; star appeal and media coverage. The ball is an evening event, always set on the first Monday in May to raise money for the costume institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Sounds relatively basic and ordinary? think again. It is a heavily publicised event, and a ticket ensures your presence on the world stage for years to come. Ironically, the most iconic moment of the gala is the red carpet before the show, as the world press the morning after catalogue, in detail the outfits, body language and general celebrity star appeal of having dozens of high profile celebs all in one building at the same time. Ironically, and completely in keeping with current technology, the outfits are "memed" on social media the n...

What to do in Paris

What to do in Paris Actress Audrey Hepburn once said “Paris is always a good idea”, and she was not wrong! Paris is one of my favourite cities and this list will tell you all of my favourite things to do when you're in the city of light! 1. A trip up the The Eiffel Tower This is a complete must, it is to Paris what the Empire State is to New York. An icon of design and engineering it was originally created for the entrance to the 1889 World Fair and was never taken down afterwards! The views from all levels are stunning, and give an incredible look at the city from above. You can pinpoint all of the iconic sights from the top, and if you're lucky, you may see a proposal or two, as hundreds of people propose every week on the iconic structure. 2.A snack at the Cafe Marly Okay, this one is not that budget friendly (I learned this the hard way) but it is so worth it for the stunning views across the Musee de Louvre, and I ordered the cheapest thing on the menu ...
